Is The Solution To America's Healthcare & Financial Crises As Simple As A Walk In The Park?
Healthcare costs, obesity rates, and the economy are a drag, but a successful Las Vegas businessman offers an easy solution at www.YesWeCanChangeNow.org
LAS VEGAS, NV March 05, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Not too long ago, Clint Arthur, a successful businessman, was in the same boat as millions of Americans - overweight, out of shape, and bummed out about the economy.
Unlike many, though, he decided to do something about it - not with an expensive gym membership, crash diet, or psychotherapy, but by heading outside to take a 45 minute walk every day.
When he did this, he discovered several things. The weight began dropping off, his energy levels and mood soared, and...he was frequently alone on his walks, strolling through an empty neighborhood.
That's what inspired him to create www.YesWeCanChangeNow.org, a movement designed to get people off their couches and back into their communities.
"I've been walking every day for health purposes since April," according to Arthur. "Recently I noticed that the streets in Las Vegas, New York and Los Angeles, are deserted, which is very depressing. More people need to get back out into the streets, to make our country look alive again."
Arthur has made a free downloadable eBook available to everyone who visits www.YesWeCanChangeNow.org.
More people out walking the streets in their neighborhood has so many benefits it's hard to list them all, according to Arthur. It reduces crime, encourages a sense of community, improves health, lowers medical costs, and when people walk to and from work or school instead of driving, reduces pollution and dependence on foreign oil.
Currently, America is facing a healthcare crisis which threatens to bankrupt the United States if medical costs are not brought under control - and the rise in obesity and obesity-related illnesses such as diabetes and
heart diseases is a major contributing factor.
At a recent White House summit, White House Budget Director Peter Orszag said that reining in health-care costs is "the single most important thing we can do to improve the long-term fiscal health of our nation."
In addition to the physical benefits of exercise, the psychological benefits of taking daily walks are immediate and very rewarding, Arthur says.
"According to Tony Robbins, emotion comes from motion, so if people would get out of their houses and move instead of sitting on their couch brooding, we could turn this country around," Arthur said.
