Arm Wrestling, Beer drinking, did we mention MFA from School of Visual Arts would be there?
Our final look at Brandon Davey's show "You'll never achieve Perfect Silence" at Henri & Odette in the gallery located at 124 South Sixth Street Suite 130, on Carson Ave. between Las Vegas Blvd. and Sixth Street.
LAS VEGAS, NV, May 20, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- For this exhibition, which will run through June 14th, 2009, with an opening reception Friday May 22 at 7pm, we have the pleasure of seeing what two years in New York will do to a UNLV BFA artist. The show will be unlike any opening that H&O has held. Long gone are the days of sipping wine quietly while discussing the conceptual themes of an exhibition. Mr. Davey has created a world where arm wrestling, beer drinking, and general macho attitude overtake the show opening, and he hopes that this sentiment permeates the building for one night, when these things occur.
Maybe his two years in a city far louder than Las Vegas has sunk in and the streets of Bushwick, Williamsburg, and Chelsea have gotten in a little bit. Growing up in Las Vegas and attending not only High School but also College in Las Vegas, the move to New York was not something he took lightly.
His work although aesthetically growing, improving etc from his last show "Boys and Girls" at Jennifer Marie Gallery in January 2008, these same gender roles haunt Mr. Davey, someone who is interested in the manliness of painting and making things....
Mr. Davey completed his BFA at UNLV in 2006. His work recently garnered quite a bit of attention at the Affordable Art Fair in New York, selling all his work. This will be the artists second solo exhibition at the gallery.
About Henri & Odette: The gallery opened August of 2008, on Carson Ave, moving from Jennifer Marie Gallery in the Arts Factory. We are a metropolitan meeting place for Art, Style, Design, and Life. The gallery is committed to showing young emerging artists mixing local academic artists, as well as select regional artists.
